Glutathione
Glutathione (GSH) is the most abundant endogenous low-molecular-weight thiol, a tripeptide (Glu-Cys-Gly, CAS 70-18-8) synthesized in virtually all mammalian cells. It functions as the primary cofactor for glutathione peroxidase-driven ROS detoxification, a substrate for glutathione S-transferases in phase II xenobiotic metabolism, and a regenerator of ascorbate via the glutathione-ascorbate redox cycle. As a research compound, it is used to manipulate cellular redox state in oxidative stress assays and to study thiol-disulfide exchange in protein chemistry. Supplied lyophilized for in vitro research use only.
